Feb. 24th
Clara had her head ultrasound last night. The doctor made it a point to see us and let us know that the scan showed that the swelling was decreasing and the blood was draining and dissolving. She indicated that Clara probably would not need any neurosurgery or drainage device to further relieve the pressure. This would very good news to both Krystal and I. Only time will tell the long term developmental issues. There is no good way to quantify the damage that was done to her brain tissue after the trauma and the swelling.
Also they are going to "push" her harder so that her body start producing. An example is hemoglobin, in the past they will give her a blood transfusion if her hemoglobin falls below a certain level. Well today the results came back and it was lower than normal so I assumed that they would give her blood. But the nurse informed me that they want her bone marrow to produce the hemoglobin instead so no transfusion for her as of now.
Today she was very animated constantly moving and squirming around. She would keep her eyes open for several minutes at a time. She is also sucking longer and harder on her pacifier. Today was the first time that I had second thoughts about doing Kcare with her because of the smell she was omitting from her diaper. It is amazing what a 2lb 6oz baby can produce, but I held my breath and enjoyed every moment of it.
Cheers for now...
